For some years we have sailed on the San Francisco Bay, having many amazing family adventures while living full-time in the foothills east of Sacramento. All the while, our hearts were being tugged toward something different…a lifestyle change that would take us out of our comfort zone and into the unknown–a world ripe for exploration.
Instead of waiting for our kids to be grown to sail the world, we are choosing to do it now…with our kids. We believe that what they will gain by casting off the dock lines and exploring our planet will far outweigh what they will lose by leaving suburban America behind for a season.
This is not some Utopian fantasy–somehow thinking that all of our problems will vanish the moment we hit the high seas. Nor is it escapism–simply running away from the materialism and complacency of our land based lifestyle.
This is an opportunity. An opportunity to travel the world and experience different cultures, lifestyles, and worldviews. An opportunity to bond as a family in an environment with less of the distractions of our busy, postmodern society. It is an opportunity to teach our kids how to love people from all walks of life, and to give and serve without concern for our own gain.
We choose to take this opportunity for what it is…a gift. We are fortunate to be able to do this, and are very thankful for each of you that choose to be a part of our journey.
